Justin Trudeau has finally stepped down.

He was the Canadian Prime Minister for nearly 10 years, after being first elected in the fall of 2015. He won twice more in 2019 and 2021, though as a minority government. Justin Trudeau has had his fair share of controversy, but was known for his progressive stances and actions, such as being fairly open to immigration, embracing diversity and gender equality, and being the Prime Minister to legalise Cannabis.

There are several reasons people give as to why they no longer like Justin Trudeau, such as his aforementioned immigration policies, or his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of his recent actions have been criticised from both the left and right.

His immigration policies specifically relate to this class fairly significantly, since immigration has been a major global topic. The part of the class it relates to is the Migration slideshow that was in Unit Two. Some of the questions in the slideshow such as “What difficulties and tensions might also arise as a result of immigration?” aren’t quite even questions anymore, as it has been long enough that is has been answered here in Canada.

Other than Justin Trudeau's attempts to take in incredible amounts of immigrants, other contributing factors that increased immigration to Canada include Canada's great reputation for immigration, and armed conflict around the world. In terms of article bias, the Associated Press does not tend to have bias in their articles, as it is largely quotes of various government leaders such as Trudeau or Poilievre with transitions between to explain and add additional context.
